Sad news.

Chick Corea, one of the most versatile and influential jazz pianists of his generation, who helped develop the electronic fusion style of music in the 1970s with Miles Davis and his groups Return To Forever and the Elektric Band, while remaining true to the classic repertoire of jazz piano, died Feb. 9 in Florida’s Tampa Bay area. He was 79.

The most recent attendance was here in Poznan when he appeared with the vibraphonist, Gary Burton., 2 years ago at the auditorium music hall. Of course, he had aged since then but his playing was still at the highest level. Pianists of his caliber do not come along very often and it was sad to hear the news.

On the brighter side, I've been wearing a cloth mask made by Marcin's wife since they became necessary. It has additional filters to use every time I wash it. However, like many masks like this, wearing glasses while using the mask usually produces fog on the lens.  Last Tuesday I looked on the internet and decided to buy 2, fog-free masks with additional filters. They will be delivered tomorrow.

Ostatni raz był tu w Poznaniu, kiedy wystąpił z wibrafonistą Garym Burtonem 2 lata temu w sali audytoryjnej. Oczywiście od tamtej pory się postarzał, ale jego gra wciąż była na najwyższym poziomie. Pianiści jego kalibru nie przychodzą zbyt często i wieści były smutne.

Z drugiej strony mam na sobie maskę z materiału wykonaną przez żonę Marcina, odkąd stały się potrzebne. Posiada dodatkowe filtry do użycia przy każdym myciu. Jednak, podobnie jak wiele takich masek, noszenie okularów podczas korzystania z maski zwykle powoduje zaparowanie soczewki. W miniony wtorek zajrzałem do internetu i zdecydowałem się kupić 2 maski przeciwmgielne z dodatkowymi filtrami. Jutro zostaną dostarczone.
