Warmer weather.....but not here.

A quiet Saturday with snow most of the morning and then stopping in the afternoon. I talked with a friend for a while who's been in Argentina for 3 months studying Spanish and won't be back until the middle of March.  It was 35c in Buenas Aires..............-6 in Poznań. I think his decision to spend the winter in Argentina was good. Last year he went to Spain during winter where the weather was also warmer.

We watched a movie last night, "Oranges and Sunshine" about what the British Government did in the 1950's to some, no, not some but a lot of children. They removed little children, ages 4-12 from what they thought were not good homes and deported them to Australia where the Australian government was suppose to take care of them but didn't.  Some years ago a British social worker heard the story and, not believing it, decided to investigate it.  What she found out was that 130,000 children were sent to Australia and grew up there not knowing their real parents were alive in Britain. In some cases the children, according to the movie, were treated like slaves and were robbed of their heritage and childhood.  The social worker went to Australia to talk to the children who were now adults and she was able to help some of them find their parents in Britian. Of course, some of the parents were dead because of the length of time.

Rozmawiałem ze znajomym, który jest w Argentynie od 3 miesięcy studiując hiszpański i nie wróci aż do połowy marca.
W Buenas Aires było +35C, kiedy w Poznaniu -6C. Myślę, że jego decyzja, by spędzić zimę w Argentynie była dobra.
W zeszłym roku udał się do Hiszpanii w okresie zimowym, gdzie było znaczniej cieplej.

W nocy oglądaliśmy film "Pomarańcze i słońce", który opowiada o tym, coz robił rząd brytyjski w 1950 roku niektórym,nie, nie niektórym, ale wielu dzieciom.
Usunął on małe dzieci, w wieku od 4 do 12 lat z domów, o których myślał, że nie są dla nich dobre i wywiózł do Australii, gdzie rząd australijski rzekomo się miał nimi zająć, ale tego nie zrobił.
Kilka lat temu brytyjski pracownik socjalny usłyszał o tej historii i nie wierząc w nią, postanowił zbadać.
Odkryła, że 130.000 dzieci zostało wysłanych do Australii i dorastało nie znając prawdziwych rodziców żyjących w Wielkiej Brytanii.
W niektórych przypadkach dzieci - według filmu - były traktowane jak niewolnicy, zostały także pozbawione swojego dziedzictwa i dzieciństwa.
Pracownik socjalny udał się do Australii, aby rozmawiać z dziećmi- już teraz dorosłymi - w celu pomocy odnalezienia ich rodziców w Wielkiej Brytanii.
Oczywiście, niektórzy z rodziców już nie żyli z powodu upływu czasu.
