Harry John Zabinski, 71, passed
away peacefully in his home October 9, 2013 with his family by his side. Harry
was born on December 26, 1941 to Harry Zabinski Sr. and Cecilla Kazmierczak.
Harry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathy (Osborne) Zabinski; daughter,
Heather (Charles) Nelson, and Roxanne Saia; three grandsons, Preston, Cooper,
and Logan; brother, Don (Maria) Zabinski; and many special loving cousins.
Harry retired from Lever Brothers in Whiting after 25 years of service. Harry
started playing music (accordion) at 5 years old, and was still playing music 6
months before he passed away. The Calumet Region knew him as "Harry the
Horn" as he played tenor sax and flute at many area facilities over the
past 50 years. Harry played music in bars and clubs from Hollywood
Whiskey-a-Go-Go to the East Coast. His group, the VICEROYS was on the Cornay
top 25 music charts in slot 16 when the Beatles were in three of the 25 slots.
When he played at the Joliet State Prison, the prisoners gave his band a
standing ovation as did many audiences across the nation. Throughout his life
he ended up playing all saxes, accordion, flute ("Coming Home")
organ, guitar, piano, and harmonica. His following filed clubs everywhere he
played. Twenty years ago he equipped his home with a music studio where many
area musicians recorded and started down their own musical paths. His
computerized music studio brought him many hours of pleasure in later years. He
wrote over a hundred songs including his wedding song. He will be missed not
only by his family but by many area musician friends. RIP Harry the Horn. Time
of sharing will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00
p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, Hobart, Indiana.
