Kaki's here!!

I know I've mentioned this fruit, Kaki, before because it is now probably our most favorite fruit. Only today I learned it is also called Persimmon. It comes to Poland from Spain and seems to be a seasonal fruit that is absolutely delicious. When we were doing our weekly shopping in Carrefour today we say them for sale and bought four. Now we just have to wait a few days until they ripen and then we can eat them. I'm sure we'll go back and buy more before they run out of them. The fruits are sweet, and slightly tangy with a soft to occasionally fibrous texture.

In some of the cities here in Poland are flying Ukraine and Polish flags to show our solidarity with the people of the Ukraine who want to join the EU but are being prevented by their government and, I suspect, Russia. The people see it as a hope for the future while Russia sees it as a threat to their control of Ukraine. Protests continue and no one knows what will happen and how their government will react again to the protests.

Kiedy dzisiaj robiliśmy nasze cotygodniowe zakupy w Carrefour zobaczyliśmy  je w sprzedaż i kupiliśmy cztery.

  1. When we lived in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in the 1970s I used buy persimmons just before Christmas and make a delicious Persimmon Steamed Pudding with hard sauce. Now I haven't seen any persimmons in years. Not in Illinois, South Carolina or Arizona where we have lived since. I still have my pudding mold, but I doubt it will ever be used again.
    Sigh!
