Tax law.

A busy day with four Skype conversations and more information coming in about double taxation. It seems as though the new agreement stop the problem. It was signed by both Presidents last year in February but neither Senate of Poland or the U.S. have ratified it and put it into law. Maybe it is not so important for them as they deal with other worldly problems but for those of us who need this law it is important. Any reader of this blog who would write or call their Senators and ask them why this law has not been passed yet would be appreciated.

1. The following letter was sent to US PA Rep. Mike Doyle and PA Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey. Feel free to copy and paste to your elected representatives.

    Dear Sir,

I am writing to you to request that you sponsor or request a vote on the “Convention between the Republic of Poland and the United States of America for the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of evasive taxation with respect to taxes on income” which was signed in Warsaw on February 13, 2013. This treaty, or agreement, requires ratification by our United States Congress. Congress has not voted on this agreement which is beneficial to both the citizens of the United States who live in Poland, but Polish citizens who live in the USA.

I have friends who live in Poland and who have already been unfairly excluded from using American Medicare and Medicaid insurance in Poland. They must purchase Polish government health insurance while living there. They must pay taxes on their Social Security income in Poland, and in the United States, which means they are taxed twice on the same income. They cannot use their earned Medicare and Medicaid benefits for health insurance in Poland, which also should be addressed by our Congress.

I urge you to persuade your colleagues in the Congress of the United States to vote to approve this treaty, or Convention, as soon as possible.
