Sad news.

Some years ago, on our second trip to Spain, we discovered a gem of a place to stay in Estepona. It was a relatively new listing on Airbnb and we were one of the first visitors. The house was on an excellent piece of property on a hillside above Estepona and facing the sea. The view was spectacular and it even had an outdoor swimming pool. It was owned by two British sisters who had been living in Spain for 40 years. Sonia and Hermione were fantastic hosts. Our bedroom was upstairs with windows facing east and south to the sea. We liked the house and hosts so much we went back the next year. The sisters introduced us to some of their friends and spent as much of their free time with us as they could. Although we haven't gone back to visit them in quite a while, we have kept in touch via email. We were planning to visit with them this winter but due to health and coronavirus, we will not.

It was with great sadness that we received an email today telling us Sonia had passed away on October 4th, leaving only Hermione at home now. The world does not have enough people like Sonia in it and so this passing is very sad. She was always full of energy, loved animals, and adventures to new places. On one night of our stays there, they arranged for us to go with them and their friends to a local dinner and Flamenco event in Estepona. It was the first time Joan had ever seen Flamenco dancers.

Kilka lat temu, podczas naszej drugiej podróży do Hiszpanii, odkryliśmy klejnot miejsca na nocleg w Esteponie. To była stosunkowo nowa oferta na Airbnb i byliśmy jednymi z pierwszych odwiedzających. Dom znajdował się na znakomitej działce na zboczu wzgórza nad Esteponą, z widokiem na morze. Widok był spektakularny i miał nawet odkryty basen. Należał do dwóch brytyjskich sióstr, które od 40 lat mieszkały w Hiszpanii. Sonia i Hermiona były fantastycznymi gospodarzami. Nasza sypialnia znajdowała się na piętrze, z oknami wychodzącymi na wschód i południe na morze. Dom i gospodarze tak nam się spodobały, że w przyszłym roku wróciliśmy. Siostry przedstawiły nas swoim znajomym i spędzały z nami jak najwięcej wolnego czasu. Chociaż od dłuższego czasu nie odwiedzaliśmy ich, utrzymywaliśmy kontakt e-mailowy. Planowaliśmy je odwiedzić tej zimy, ale ze względu na zdrowie i koronawirusa nie.

Z wielkim smutkiem otrzymaliśmy dzisiaj e-mail z informacją, że Sonia zmarła 4 października, zostawiając teraz w domu tylko Hermionę. Na świecie jest za mało ludzi takich jak Sonia, więc to przemijanie jest bardzo smutne. Zawsze była pełna energii, kochała zwierzęta i przygody w nowych miejscach. Podczas jednego z naszych pobytów zorganizowali dla nas pójście z nimi i ich przyjaciółmi na lokalną kolację i imprezę flamenco w Esteponie. To był pierwszy raz, kiedy Joan widziała tancerzy flamenco.

Hace algunos años, en nuestro segundo viaje a España, descubrimos una joya de lugar donde alojarse en Estepona. Era un anuncio relativamente nuevo en Airbnb y fuimos uno de los primeros visitantes. La casa estaba en una excelente propiedad en una ladera sobre Estepona y frente al mar. La vista era espectacular e incluso tenía una piscina al aire libre. Era propiedad de dos hermanas británicas que llevaban 40 años viviendo en España. Sonia y Hermione fueron unos anfitriones fantásticos. Nuestro dormitorio estaba arriba con ventanas que daban al mar al este y al sur. Nos gustó tanto la casa y los anfitriones que volvimos al año siguiente. Las hermanas nos presentaron a algunos de sus amigos y pasaron la mayor parte de su tiempo libre con nosotros. Aunque no hemos vuelto a visitarlos en bastante tiempo, nos hemos mantenido en contacto por correo electrónico. Estábamos planeando visitarlos este invierno, pero debido a la salud y el coronavirus, no lo haremos.

Fue con gran tristeza que recibimos un correo electrónico hoy diciéndonos que Sonia había fallecido el 4 de octubre, dejando solo a Hermione en casa ahora. El mundo no tiene suficientes personas como Sonia y por eso este fallecimiento es muy triste. Siempre estaba llena de energía, amaba a los animales y tenía aventuras en lugares nuevos. En una noche de nuestras estancias allí, organizaron que fuéramos con ellos y sus amigos a una cena local y evento de flamenco en Estepona. Era la primera vez que Joan veía bailarines de flamenco.
