Chelmno

I have to backtrack one day to Friday when we arrived in Chelmno.  The main reason I wanted to go there was to see what progress had been made in the restoration of the St. Peter & Paul church.  When we were there a few years ago it was still in the state it was after World War II, inside almost completely ruined, without an altar, decorations or anything other than benches to sit on. The plaster was falling off of the walls and columns and it looked terrible.

Thanks to the determination of a group of people in Chelmno there has been a lot of progress.  This is due to funding by the EU for the restoration project but also contributions from private individuals.  On our visit Friday we found the altar restored, the walls and columns mostly redone, the stairs to the choir loft rebuilt and the floor being replaced. 

My only question is how many people will actually use this church because there are two very large churches and 3 smaller churches already in Chelmno and Chelmno only has a population of 21,000 people and according to the latest statistics only 40% of Catholics attend church.

Mam się cofnąć jeden dzień do piątku, kiedy przyjechaliśmy w Chełmnie.Głównym powodem chciałem iść tam było zobaczyć, co poczyniono postępy w renowacji kościoła św Piotra i Pawła. Kiedy byliśmy tam kilka lat temu było jeszcze w stanie to było po II wojnie światowej, w środku prawie całkowicie zniszczony, bez ołtarza, dekoracje lub czegokolwiek innego niż ławki do siedzenia.Tynk spadając ze ścian i kolumn i wyglądało to okropnie.

Dzięki determinacji grupy osób w Chełmnie nastąpił duży postęp. Spowodowane jest to dofinansowanie z UE na prace konserwatorskie, ale także składek od osób prywatnych. Na naszej wizyty piątek okazało się ołtarz przywrócone, ściany i kolumny głównie przerobione, schody na chór przebudowany i podłoga są zastępowane.

Moje pytanie tylko ile osób faktycznie korzysta z tego kościoła, ponieważ istnieją dwa bardzo duże kościoły i 3 mniejsze kościoły już w Chełmnie i Chełmna tylko liczy 21000 osób, a według najnowszych statystyk tylko 40% katolików chodzi do kościoła.
