Economy.

I posted an article I read today about the state of today's Polish economy. There are people who will disagree with it but many agree that Poland has made great strides forward in the last ten years.  I think, in general, not enough good things are said by the world about Poland. We have lived here now almost eight years since our first visit in 2003 and we see a lot of changes for the good. Yes, recently I complained about the changes to our rynek but that is a minor thing in comparison to the whole picture of Poland. More must by done for the small villages and towns to help the people living there and to stop the departing of our young people to foreign countries in order to earn enough money to live. We need politicians who think more about the good of the whole country rather than just what is good for themselves or major cities.

OK, I'm off the soap box now.....It is a beautiful day today in Poznań and we went out in the afternoon to take advantage of it. The trees are filling in with green leaves, the grass is growing, flowers blooming and Spring can't be denied. This weekend we'll take a ride into the country to see how the rapeseed fields are doing and be amazed again at the beauty of the yellow fields. You really have to see them in person to appreciate their beauty. In their case, a picture is not worth a thousand words because words cant's express the visual site of them and the wonderful aroma of the plants. It's like honey to the nose. In front of our building the rhododendrons are blossoming into red colors and it's just a matter of time until the hydrangeas start blooming too. Those plants have excellent colors.

We did our weekly shopping today, 130 zl. It included a few extra things we don't buy every week so the cost was a little higher. Sometimes we have to go to both Carrefour and Real to shop because there are some things in one store you can't buy in the other. Joan started Spring cleaning today so this weekend it's window washing time for me. I don't mind it. It's good to have clear windows after the winter dirt is washed off. I got a message from cousin Oliwia who is in Koniń now for a short visit with her parents, too short for us to meet this time. We've been watching an old TV series, Northern Exposure, that takes place in Alaska because it has beautiful scenery. Sometimes I get a yearning for the forest and nature because of the time I spent living amongst it.

  1. I hate to disagree, but Northern Exposure was filmed in the state of Washington. Here's an except I found: Although the town of Cicely is widely thought to be patterned after the real town of Talkeetna, Alaska, the main street of Cicely and the filming location was that of Roslyn, Washington, located in the Cascade Mountains. "Northern Exposure II" (the main production facility) was located in Redmond, Washington, in what is now the headquarters of Genie Industries, behind a business park.

According to The Northern Exposure Book, the moose in the opening titles was named Mort and was provided by Washington State University, where he was part of a captive herd. To film the opening sequence, the crew fenced off Roslyn, set him loose, and lured him around with food.[
