Environmental problems.

So far, this week has not been good to the environment here. First the news about the buried chemical barrels in Przyjma and now two new discoveries.

Further barrels of chemicals were excavated in Depauli, gm. Krzymów. Firefighters, police officers and representatives of the Voivodship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection in Poznań, Delegation in Konin are working on the spot.

The echo of a dangerous find in Przyjma, and already they discovered the next barrel on the next gravel pit belonging to the same family. This time, a gravel pit in Depauli is being excavated. It is not known what is in the removable drums. Most likely, they are lacquers and oils.

So far nearly 60 barrels have been dug, of which about half are damaged. The situation is developmental. There are over 20 fire fighters from Konin and a special chemical and ecological group from Ostrów Wielkopolski. They are going to work today until dusk, and tomorrow they will resume their activities.

Closer to home, a river poisoning near Poznan: 'water is more sapphire than in exotic countries'. On Wednesday, the Kopla river was found poisoned by an unknown substance added to the river, which tinted the river blue.

Małgorzata Koziarska from WIOŚ confirms that the perpetrator has been identified. - it is one of the companies operating in this area. As a result of the damage of a large container with dye, about 300 kg of dye was leaking into the river, she says. - Already on Wednesday, control was started here. Our information shows that this was not a deliberate action and the result of the mechanical device of the container - she adds.

WIOŚ already knows what exactly the substance got into the river but it will still be tested for environmental impact but it is a chemical and certainly has some impact on the environment. It is necessary to determine to what extent.

Dzisiaj będą pracować do zmierzchu, a jutro  wznowią działalność.

  1. Really terrible, that this stuff is going on there.
Was there an answer (or more news coverage) as to your "Mediterranean-blue" waterway?

In California, about a month or so ago, they showed aerial pictures of one
of their huge reservoirs completely black...shocking, in that it was like an
"overnight-like" turn of events. Fortunately (well, relatively-speaking), it
turned out to be thousands of plastic balls to deflect sunlight to deter algae
formation. However, given that there's been warnings for decades as to the
toxicity of drinking water stored in certain plastic bottles (likely, all plastic,
eventually), it can't be a good thing either, for this many plastic balls stewing
like teabags under the CA sun!

The minute mankind started mucking with nature through chemical manipulation and
so-called "high-tech" solutions, has pretty much, spelled our doom and decline, the
way I see it. We don't have to live like cavemen, but we sure as heck need better
treatment of the natural environment-- everywhere-- than we have been doing to it, in the name of science, "progress", and/or corporate greed!

I hope Poland (and other Euro countries) do not give in to becoming corporate backwaters for toxics, like so much which has been allowed to happen in the U.S.
