Hungarian surprise.

It was an interesting day yesterday.  In the morning I had a one-hour Spanish conversation and in the afternoon a one-hour Polish conversation. After taking out the garbage, I checked our mailbox and there was an envelope waiting from Tolcsva, Hungary. That is the birthplace of Joan's grandfather. A little excited, I opened the envelope and found a copy of Joan's grandfather's baptismal record, in the Hungarian language. Not being conversive in the language myself, I brought up the Hungarian Genealogy research group on FaceBook. took pictures of the documents, and asked if someone would translate for me. Within an hour I had several replies. It also named who his mother and father were. Joan's great grandparents.  Joan's maiden name was spelled Frederick but in Hungary, they spelled it Fridrik. One of the helpers also has family in Tolcsva and said there are many Fridriks in the archives. I was given several pages to search through but finally found the right one. Now, Joan's tree is a little bigger.

If the number of new corona cases can stay, or go below the latest figures, 7,283 yesterday, MAYBE it will be a little easier to go outside. 101 deaths was also a good sign the number is coming down. It all depends on the people adhering to the restrictions and more getting vaccinated. I am so tired of being in this cage.

Wczoraj był interesujący dzień. Rano odbyłem godzinną rozmowę po hiszpańsku, a po południu godzinną rozmowę po polsku. Po wyniesieniu śmieci sprawdziłem naszą skrzynkę pocztową, a tam czekała koperta z Tolcsvy na Węgrzech. To miejsce urodzenia dziadka Joan. Trochę podekscytowany otworzyłem kopertę i znalazłem kopię aktu chrztu dziadka Joan, w języku węgierskim. Nie będąc samemu w stanie przetłumaczyć z tego języka, napomknąłem o tym węgierskiej grupie poszukiwaczy genealogii na FaceBook'u. Zrobiłem zdjęcia dokumentów i zapytałem, czy ktoś mógłby mi je przetłumaczyć. W ciągu godziny miałem kilka odpowiedzi. Podano również kim byli matka i ojciec oraz pradziadkowie Joan. Nazwisko panieńskie Joan pisane było Frederick, ale na Węgrzech pisano je Fridrik. Jeden z piszących podał, że ma rodzinę w Tolcsvie i powiedział, że w archiwach jest wielu Fridrików. Dano mi kilka stron do przeszukania, ale w końcu znalazłem tę właściwą. Teraz drzewo Joan jest trochę większe.
