I have to thank cousin Andrzej for pointing out a mistake on yesterday's blog. I wrote Europe is a country when it really is a continent. Don't know how I made that mistake but I did.

I'm old enough to remember when electrical appliances lasted much longer than they do today. I read an article some time ago that suggested manufacturers actually program the appliance to malfunction after a period of time. 

We have a Samsung Smart TV. A month ago, all of a sudden the 3 USB ports stopped working. It's impossible to connect a pen drive or external drive and view what is on it. We use them frequently. I chatted with support from Samsung and they said our TV was 10 years old and it wasn't possible to reset the USB connections.  Now, basically, we can only watch the news channels in English. To get around the problem, I connect my laptop to the TV screen and use it only for a monitor screen. However, the sound is controlled by the laptop and many things we would like to see are barely possible to hear, limiting our entertainment possibilities.

Muszę podziękować kuzynowi Andrzejowi za zwrócenie uwagi na błąd we wczorajszym blogu. Napisałem, że Europa to kraj, podczas gdy tak naprawdę jest to kontynent. Nie wiem jak popełniłem ten błąd, ale popełniłem.

Jestem na tyle stary, że pamiętam czasy, kiedy urządzenia elektryczne wytrzymywały znacznie dłużej niż dzisiaj. Jakiś czas temu czytałem artykuł, który sugerował, że producenci wręcz programują urządzenia tak, aby po pewnym czasie przestały działać. 

Mamy telewizor Samsung Smart TV. Miesiąc temu, nagle 3 porty USB przestały działać. Nie da się podłączyć pendrive'a czy dysku zewnętrznego i przeglądać co na nim jest. Często z nich korzystamy. Rozmawiałem z obsługą techniczną Samsunga i powiedzieli, że nasz telewizor ma 10 lat i nie ma możliwości zresetowania połączeń USB. Teraz, w zasadzie, możemy oglądać tylko kanały informacyjne w języku angielskim. Aby obejść problem, podłączyłem laptopa do ekranu telewizora i używam go tylko jako monitor. Jednak dźwięk jest sterowany przez laptop i wiele rzeczy, które chcielibyśmy zobaczyć są ledwo słyszalne, co ogranicza nasze możliwości rozrywki.

Soy lo suficientemente mayor para recordar cuando los aparatos eléctricos duraban mucho más que hoy. Hace algún tiempo leí un artículo que sugería que los fabricantes realmente programen el aparato para que funcione mal después de un período de tiempo.

Tenemos un Smart TV de Samsung. Hace un mes, de repente, los 3 puertos USB dejaron de funcionar. Es imposible conectar un pendrive o un disco externo y ver lo que contiene. Los usamos con frecuencia. Charlé con el soporte de Samsung y me dijeron que nuestro televisor tenía 10 años y que no era posible restablecer las conexiones USB. Ahora, básicamente, solo podemos ver los canales de noticias en inglés. Para solucionar el problema, conecto mi computadora portátil a la pantalla del televisor y la uso solo como pantalla de monitor. Sin embargo, el sonido está controlado por la computadora portátil y muchas cosas que nos gustaría ver apenas son posibles de escuchar, lo que limita nuestras posibilidades de entretenimiento.
