Music

Music has been seriously a part of my life since I was 15 years old. My brother introduced me to jazz. It was a recording by the drummer Gene Krupa. My taste of music broadened as I grew older to encompass all forms of music from rock n' roll, blues, folk, acapella, gregorian chant, classical, and even some country and western. At times, it was my refuge from daily life or tragedies. It pushed me to study it more at DePaul Universities School of Music. For a while, it provided a living for me. Now, once again, it is a refuge for me.

I am not a rabid fan of country & western music but there are exceptions like Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Travis Tritt, K.T.Oslin, and Alan Jackson. I was sad to hear the news of the stroke that took away the voice of Randy Travis and his struggles to recover. Likewise, I feel the same about how devastated the voice of Joni Mitchell is due to smoking. To me, a singing voice is the most magical of all instruments. It has to be cared for because, bad habits, alcohol, smoking, neglect, or just aging will change it. Few vocalists sound the same throughout their careers. A good voice and good song lyrics can bring tears to my eyes or make me smile. Of course, there are exceptions to that like Tom Waits with his raspy voice but a beautiful voice has no equal. Pavarotti was a good example.

We said our final goodbye to Bartosz today. It is going to be different not seeing him every week like we have. It will definitely add more stress to my life having to take over the daily exercises for Joan. He said she will not make much progress but it is important to keep her exercising to slow down the deterioration. I will, of course, continue with them.

Muzyka była ważną częścią mojego życia od 15 roku życia. Mój brat zapoznał mnie z jazzem. Było to nagranie perkusisty Gene Krupa. Oczywiście są od tego wyjątki, jak Tom Waits ze swoim zgrzytliwym głosem, ale piękny głos nie ma sobie równych. Pavarotti był dobrym przykładem.

Dzisiaj ostatecznie pożegnaliśmy się z Bartoszem. Będzie inaczej, niż widywanie go każdego tygodnia, jak do tej pory. To na pewno doda więcej stresu do mojego życia, kiedy będę musiał przejąć codzienne ćwiczenia z Joan. Powiedział, że nie zrobi dużych postępów, ale ważne jest, aby ćwiczyła, aby spowolnić pogarszanie się jej stanu. Oczywiście będę je kontynuować.

Hoy dijimos nuestro último adiós a Bartosz. Va a ser diferente no verlo todas las semanas como lo hemos hecho nosotros. Definitivamente agregará más estrés a mi vida tener que hacerme cargo de los ejercicios diarios de Joan. Dijo que no progresará mucho, pero que es importante mantenerla haciendo ejercicio para frenar el deterioro. Por supuesto, continuaré con ellos.
