Barack Obama
On the eve of the Barack Obama presidency, 53 percent of Poles view the United States favourably.
The poll by the Ipsos agency found that Poland views the US more favourably than any other European nation. In fact, out of the 22 countries polled, only India (and the United States itself) had a more favourable rating.
Russia and Turkey gave the US the biggest thumbs down and cited Washington’s foreign policy as being responsible for such a negative opinion.
The poll was taken from a sample of 22,000 in late November, 2008.
Another poll taken last November by BBC World found that 33 percent Poles thought that an Obama presidency would improve the US’s image abroad.
