What flower is this?

Does anyone know the name of this flower? It's on the window sill in the hallway just in front of our apartment door and it is very beautiful. We don't know the name of it.

Ukraine continues to grow in crisis and American troops are in Poland, Latvia and Litwa. It's just a small amount and I'm not sure why they are here or what they could do against the larger forces of Russia should Russia decide to send it's military into Eastern Ukraine but the situation gets worse each day. Diplomacy isn't working.

We stayed home today although it was nice outside but with a Polish lesson in the morning and three conversations in the afternoon there wasn't much time for outside activities. I did add the five new names to my Piekarczyk genealogy tree and made a new print out for the wall showing the new people.

  1. It looks like an amaryllis to me. If the flower stem seemed to grow several inches a day it's definitely an amaryllis. My grandkids gave me a bulb for Christmas, but it was a dud - lots of leaves but no flower!

    Dear Joan and David,

The flower in your picture is Amarylis. They are perennial and grow from the bulb a little similar to onion. They can be different colors - white, pink, peach and striped. In Florida you do not need to dig them up, in very cold parts of the country you have to dig them up. They are dormant all winter and in spring they show their colors. Enjoy while you can.

    Best wishes
