Court day.

At last the day arrived to have our case heard in court about the accident last December. My friend, Andrzej, agreed to go with me and tell the prosecutor I did not speak Polish and would need a translator. Previously he told me to write to the court and inform them about a translator which I did.

We walked the 8 blocks to the court and got there earlier than our 12:00 appointed time. A short time after we were there the young man who caused the accident arrived alone. We greeted each other and sat down to wait for our time. A few minutes later the young man's lawyer appeared and then a young woman was also listed as a witness. I had no idea who she was because it was a man who was a witness of the time of the accident and called the police. Our names were called and we went into the small court room where there was a female prosecutor sitting behind the judges bench and next to her a woman putting everything said into a computer. It was then the young woman said she was an official translator for me and would relate what I said to the prosecutor. First, the prosecutor wanted to hear the young man's story and said I had to leave the room because she didn't want what he said to influence my testimony. Outside the room we waited for 20 minutes and as the young man and his lawyer walked out, we were called back in. To my surprise the prosecutor said the young man confirmed everything I had said, admitted the accident was his fault and agreed to whatever punishment the prosecutor would give him. Then she thanked me for coming to court, the case was closed and I could leave.  Outside the young man was waiting, apologized for causing the accident and we shook hands. I told him I was happy it was over and that nobody was hurt as a result of the accident. With a sigh of relief I did that and called Joan to tell her what happened.

W ko艅cu nadszed艂 dzie艅 naszej sprawy w s膮dzie  dotycz膮cej wypadku samochodowego w grudniu ubieg艂ego roku.

Przeszli艣my  obok 8. budynk贸w do s膮du i byli艣my tam wcze艣niej ni偶 o 12:00 czyli przed wyznaczonym czasem spotkania. Nied艂ugo po tym, jak przybyli艣my, przyszed艂 m艂ody cz艂owiek, kt贸ry spowodowa艂 wypadek. Przywitali艣my si臋 i usiedli艣my czekaj膮c na wyznaczon膮 godzin臋. Kilka minut p贸藕niej pojawi艂 si臋 adwokat m艂odego cz艂owieka, a potem  m艂oda kobieta, kt贸ra zosta艂a r贸wnie偶 wymieniona jako 艣wiadek. Nie mia艂em poj臋cia, kim ona jest, bo  艣wiadkiem wypadku by艂 m臋偶czyzna, kt贸ry zadzwoni艂 na policj臋. Nasze nazwiska zosta艂y wyczytane i weszli艣my do ma艂ej sali s膮dowej, gdzie  kobieta prokurator siedzia艂a za 艂aw膮 s臋dziowsk膮, a obok by艂a kobieta wpisuj膮ca wszystko, co zosta艂o powiedziane do komputera. W贸wczas m艂oda kobieta powiedzia艂a, 偶e jest moim oficjalnym t艂umaczem  i b臋dzie relacjonowa膰 wszystko to, co powiem  prokuratorowi. Na pocz膮tek , prokurator chcia艂a us艂ysze膰 zeznanie m艂odego m臋偶czyzny i powiedzia艂a, 偶e musz臋 opu艣ci膰 sal臋, poniewa偶 nie chcia艂a, 偶eby to ,co on powie  wp艂ywa艂o na moje zeznanie. Czekali艣my 20 minut poza sal膮, a jak m艂ody cz艂owiek i jego adwokat wyszli, byli艣my wezwani ponownie. Ku mojemu zaskoczeniu prokurator powiedzia艂a, 偶e m艂ody cz艂owiek potwierdzi艂 wszystko, co ja powiedzia艂em, przyzna艂, 偶e wypadek by艂 z jego winy i zgodzi艂 si臋 na ka偶d膮 kar臋, jak膮 zas膮dzi prokurator . Potem podzi臋kowa艂a mi za przybycie do s膮du, sprawa zosta艂a zamkni臋ta i mog艂em wyj艣膰. M艂ody cz艂owiek czeka艂 na zewn膮trz, przeprosi艂 za spowodowanie wypadku i u艣cisn臋li艣my sobie d艂onie. Powiedzia艂em mu, 偶e jestem zadowolony, 偶e to koniec i 偶e nikt nie zosta艂 ranny w wyniku wypadku. Westchn膮艂em z ulg膮 i zadzwoni艂em do Joan , aby jej powiedzie膰, co si臋 sta艂o.
