Thanksgiving Day

Part of my family in Poland, at a family reunion in the year 2003.

We woke this morning with the intention to go to Cecylia for the celebration of her nameday. Unfortunately Joan has a fever so we did not think it was wise to stand in the cold to wait for busses and trams. It is a pity because we wanted to celebrate this day with cousin Cecylia. Also, Magda said she would be there and we wanted to wish her a happy 30th birthday. But we stayed home and Joan was in bed most of the early day, only waking up at 4PM to start making the Żurek for tonights dinner.

I spent the day studying, working on my genealogy chart and answering emails. It is rare when Joan is not well but those times remind me I must take better care of her.

I thought about this day of Thanksgiving..even not in a country that celebrates it. It is still a day of thanksgiving for us, that our decision to move to Poland was good; that we have made new friends here; that, even with the langauge problem, we are living in the land of my ancestors and feel we belong here. Thanksgiving to God that he has given me such a wonderful wife. Yes, we miss the daughters and sons, the grandchildren, turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie but still we are greatful to be her, alive and healthy. Yes, Joan has a fever but we still feel healthy and happy. Thanksgiving day is unique to America but you can still of a day of thanksgiving anywhere.

Spędziłem dzień studiujący, pracując nad moją mapą genealogii i odpowiadającymi email.
Dziękczynienie do Boga, że on dał mi taką cudowną żonę.
