Romet.

I mentioned to a friend I was looking for a simple exercise bike for Joan last week and I asked for his advice. He told me he had one that was not being used and I could have it for free if I wanted it. Last night I went to his house to check it out and accepted it. He gave me more than just a bicycle, he gave me a piece of Polish bicycle history. The bicycle that he gave me belonged to his mother who never used it and bought it 30 years ago. It was made in Poland. The top picture is our bike and the bottom is the newest version of the bike.

The beginning of the bicycle industry in Poland dates back to the first decade of the 20th century. The oldest and at the same time the biggest bicycle factories were: the Bicycle Manufacturer "Wicher" established in 1891, Wahren's Factory in Warsaw (1893), Factory "Ormonde"(1913) and F. Zawadzki's Bicycle and Bicycle Parts Factory set up in 1917.

At the turn of 1945/1946 there were only 1,2 million bicycles in Poland, which means that for every 23 citizens, there was only one bicycle. Now I would guess the majority of households have a least one bicycle. In most of the cities we have visited, next to the sidewalk there is also a bicycle path.  Some paths even connect one town to another. Plus, major cities have established bike rental systems where bicycles are available to rent at any time.

The foundation of the United Bicycle Manufacturers in 1948 fuelled a fast growth of production in the next years. Despite the lack of raw materials and limited human resources, the company managed to develop astonishingly. "Romet" was established as the 11th department of the company in 1971. It employed 450 people and produced 220.000 bicycles a year.

1976 was the year of modernization for Romet – the factory was expanded, assembly lines, an electrostatic paint shop and wet surface treatment machines were installed.
Thanks to these changes as early as August 1977 the millionth bicycle left the assembly line. The development of Romet is illustrated by the fact that the first million bicycles were produced over 5 years and the next – in half of this time.

Wspomniałem znajomego szukałem prostego rower treningowy dla Joan zeszłym tygodniu i poprosiłem o jego rad. Powiedział mi, że ten, który nie był używany i może mam to za darmo, gdybym chciał. Ostatniej nocy poszedłem do jego domu, aby to sprawdzić i przyjął go. Dał mi więcej niż tylko roweru, dał mi kawałek historii polskiego rowerowej. Rower, że dał mi należał do jego matki, która nigdy nie używał go i kupił ją 30 lat temu. Został on wykonany w Polsce. Górny obraz jest nasz rower, a dno jest najnowsza wersja roweru.

Początki przemysłu rowerowego w Polsce sięga pierwszej dekady 20 wieku. Najstarszym i zarazem największe fabryki rowerowe były: Producent rowerów "Wicher" ustanowiony w 1891 roku Fabryka Wahren w Warszawie (1893), fabryka "Ormonde" (1913) i F. Zawadzkiego rowerów i rowerów Części fabrycznie ustawiony w 1917.

Niektóre ścieżki nawet podłączyć jednego miasta do drugiego. Plus, główne miasta ustanowiły system wypożyczalni rowerów, gdzie można wypożyczyć rowery w każdej chwili.

Fundament z producentów Wielka rowerze w 1948 fueled szybki wzrost produkcji w ciągu najbliższych lat. Pomimo braku surowców i ograniczonych zasobów ludzkich, firma zdołała opracować zdumiewająco. "Romet" powstała 11 dział przedsiębiorstwa w 1971 roku 450 osób zatrudnionych i wyprodukował 220.000 rowerów rocznie.

1976 był rokiem modernizacji dla Romet - fabryka została rozszerzona, linie montażowe, elektrostatyczny lakiernia i mokre maszyny obróbki powierzchniowej zostały zainstalowane.
Dzięki Zmiany te już w sierpniu 1977 roku milionowy rower opuścił linię montażową. Rozwój Romet ilustruje fakt, że pierwszy milion rowery wytwarzanego w ciągu 5 lat i następne - w połowie czasu.
