Rant#17

My cousin Amy Sassenberg wrote this......
I wrote most of this on a friend’s timeline because he called out the president for using George Floyd’s name to pat himself on the back for the positive jobs report. So many pushed back and called it media lies and that it was taken out of context, etc. I just can’t stand any more of this nonsense. This is not a right or left issue. This is right or wrong. This is wrong!
I’m so saddened to see that people are still defending anything this president says. Here are the words you’re disputing:
“Hopefully George is looking down right now and saying, 'There's a great thing that's happening for our country.' This is a great day for him, it's a great day for everybody. This is a great day for everybody." (You can fact check this.)
Can you imagine another leader anywhere addressing reporters and a nation in turmoil, saying it’s a great day? Millions are or have been deathly ill. Thousands have died. Millions are unemployed. So many have lost jobs or homes or businesses. Millions still have to isolate and stay home, homeschool their kids, can’t visit their aging or sick relatives in the hospital or care home. Millions of police officers and government officials are working around the clock and just had their jobs get a whole lot more dangerous.
The fabric of our government, our society, and our democracy is ripping apart. Millions live in fear: of contracting a deadly virus, of losing their livelihood, of police brutality, of casual systemic racism that affects every facet of their lives. George Floyd’s family is grieving! The whole country is grieving. Millions are protesting all over the US and all over the world because injustice is rampant. The day is so great he built a blockade around the White House.

But because a report came out and said that a lot of folks got their jobs back, (numbers were not changed for people of color, btw) then everything is hunky? Even if you take out the horrible insult to the murdered George Floyd, his family, and the black community at large, it’s still wildly insulting to every person who has suffered in some way during this tragic period. And the majority of responses that I see are that it’s taken out of context or the headline is juiced up? The state of the world around you IS the context. We are going down in flames, people. All of us. A house divided cannot stand. Let’s try to pull together and be kind. Let’s call out the insanity and insensitivity and downright brutality when we see it.

Moja kuzynka Amy Sassenberg napisała to.....

(Możesz to sprawdzić.)

My wszyscy. Dom podzielony nie może wytrzymać. Spróbujmy współpracować i być mili. Wytykajmy publicznie szaleństwo, nietaktowność i jawną brutalność, gdy to zobaczymy.
