Rest.

Our day of rest yesterday started at 9:00 when we woke up. Breakfast was simple, Kasza and Quinoa grains with milk and honey. We listened to music from the 1950s, "Oldies but Goodies" with many of the vocal groups we knew growing up in our teenage years a lifetime ago.

In the afternoon I washed 1 load of clothes, we watched 2 movies and at17:00(5PM)Joan had her Skype call with her daughter, Karen, and half-way through it grandson, Joe joined in. He finally made his university decision. He will travel to downstate Illinois and attend the University of Southern Illinois. It was a toss-up between the University of Colorado and SIU but as a resident of Illinois the tuition is much cheaper and they have a good nursing program. Karen was happy with his decision because it will be easier for him to come home on holidays and even some long weekends.

Here in Poland, June 28th is election day for the Presidency. The incumbent, President Duda(PiS party), has the lead with 40% of the voters while the challenger, Trzaskowski(PO party) has only 27%. However, in Poland, if you don't have 50% of the vote, there is a second election. The "Poll" shows if that happens,  Duda has only a 1 or 2 % advantage.

Living close to the center of Poznań, it's hard to see many stars because of all the lights at night.  I read, with interest. that some of the smaller cities are replacing their lights with LED lights. Konin, a small city just east of Golina,  has reduced its lighting. This is mainly due to 3600 LED lamps administered by ZDM. The remaining thousand are sodium and metal halide lamps, technologically different, but also modern. Designed so as to save energy, and thus - to shine only where it is needed. A big step in this direction was made in 2014 when as part of a special program it was possible to replace as many as 2500 LED luminaires. One of the better places to see the milky way is Grodziec, the small village south-west of Konin where my great grandfather worked as a "smith."

Bartosz was here at 14:00 to work with Joan. It gave me time to go to Carrefour and buy chicken thighs for tonight's dinner and olive oil for breakfast todadas tomorrow. I returned just in time for the finish of their hour together. He walked the stairs with her and then did other exercises. Tonight I am making Roasted Chicken Thighs, Potatoes and Vegetables.

Nasz wczorajszy dzień odpoczynku zaczął się o 9:00, kiedy się obudziliśmy. Śniadanie było proste, kasza i Quinoa z mlekiem i miodem. Słuchaliśmy muzyki z lat 50-tych, "Oldies but Goodies" z wieloma znanymi nam zespołami wokalnymi, z którymi dorastalismy, kiedy bylismy nastolatkami.

Po południu wyprałem 1 porcję ubrań, obejrzeliśmy 2 filmy i o 17:00 Joan miała rozmowę na Skype'ie z córką Karen, a jej połowie dołączył wnuk Joe. W końcu podjął swoją decyzję o studiach. Pojedzie do stanu Illinois i bedzie uczęszczać na University of Southern Ilinois. To był rzut monetą pomiędzy Uniwersytetem Kolorado a SIU, ale jako mieszkaniec stanu Illinois nauka jest znacznie tańsza i mają dobry program pielęgniarski. Karen była zadowolona z jego decyzji, ponieważ będzie mu łatwiej wracać do domu na wakacje, a nawet długie weekendy.

Tu, w Polsce, 28 czerwca jest dniem wyborów prezydenckich. Obecny prezydent Duda (partia PiS) prowadzi z 40% poparciem wyborców, podczas gdy przeciwnik, Trzaskowski (partia PO) ma tylko 27%. Jednak w Polsce, jeśli nie ma 50% głosów, odbywa się druga tura wyborów. Jeśli tak się stanie, Duda ma tylko 1 lub 2 % przewagę.

Mieszkając blisko centrum Poznania, trudno jest zobaczyć wiele gwiazd z powodu wszystkich świateł w nocy. Z zainteresowaniem czytam, że niektóre z mniejszych miast zastępują swoje oświetlenie światłami LED. Konin, małe miasto na wschód od Goliny, ograniczyło swoje oświetlenie. Dzieje się tak głównie dzięki 3600 diodom LED zarządzanym przez ZDM. Pozostałe tysiące to lampy sodowe i metalohalogenkowe, różne technologicznie, ale i nowoczesne. Zaprojektowane tak, aby oszczędzać energię, a tym samym - aby świecić tylko tam, gdzie jest to potrzebne. Duży krok w tym kierunku wykonano w 2014 roku, kiedy w ramach specjalnego programu możliwa była wymiana aż 2500 opraw LED. Jednym z lepszych miejsc do obejrzenia mlecznej drogi jest Grodziec, mała wioska na południowy zachód od Konina, gdzie mój pradziadek pracował jako "kowal".

Bartosz był tu o 14:00, by pracować z Joan. Dało mi to czas na wyjazd do Carrefour i kupienie udek z kurczaka na dzisiejszą kolację oraz oliwy z oliwek na jutrzejsze śniadanie z todadas. Wróciłem w samą porę, kiedy kończyli ich wspólną godzinę. Chodził z nią po schodach, a potem robił inne ćwiczenia. Dziś wieczorem robię pieczone udka z kurczaka, ziemniaki i warzywa.

Nuestro día de descanso de ayer comenzó a las 9:00 cuando nos despertamos. El desayuno era sencillo, Kasza y quinua con leche y miel. Escuchamos música de la década de 1950, "Oldies but Goodies" con muchos de los grupos vocales que conocimos durante nuestra adolescencia hace una vida.

Por la tarde lavé 1 carga de ropa, vimos 2 películas y a las 17:00 (5PM) Joan tuvo su llamada de Skype con su hija, Karen, y a mitad de su nieto, Joe se unió. Finalmente tomó su decisión de la universidad . Viajará al estado de Illinois y asistirá a la Universidad del Sur de Illinois. Fue una sacudida entre la Universidad de Colorado y SIU, pero como residente de Illinois, la matrícula es mucho más barata y tienen un buen programa de enfermería. Karen estaba feliz con su decisión porque le será más fácil volver a casa en vacaciones e incluso algunos fines de semana largos.

Aquí en Polonia, el 28 de junio es el día de las elecciones para la Presidencia. Regresé justo a tiempo para el final de su hora juntos. Subió las escaleras con ella y luego hizo otros ejercicios. Esta noche estoy haciendo muslos de pollo asado, papas y vegetales.
