Evaluation.

Markus, I wrote an answer to your email but maybe it appeared in your junk mail folder. Check there for it.

After my lesson with Zbyszek I went to the clinic to pickup the results of Joan's chest and lungs x-ray. Everything is fine, she has no problems so we are happy with that.

Re-evaluating my own venture in learning the Polish language I decided I spend more time learning Spanish now than Polish because it is so much easier. Today I changed that, made a schedule of time each day dedicated only to Polish and will keep to this schedule. I'll still spend time with Joan learning Spanish but Polish has to be my first priority. I went back to the 100 stories from Learn Real Polish and will use that as a listening basis. I also have a book of stories in Polish on the left page and English on the right which I will use. I've had both for a while but slacked off from them when Spanish began. I have to thank cousin Kazia for this re-dedication because during our last conversation she didn't understand some of the time and it was because of my use of the Polish language. It made me realize I have not done enough in the last months to improve. So, thank you cousin Kazia.

Weather wise, it's been gray and cloudy the last several days with heavy fog in the morning. They even had a smog warning in Kraków the other day. It might be because of the coal used for heating in the surrounding villages. We defintely need an alternative type of heating houses but nothing is on the horizon. Poland is a big use country for coal, employing a lot of people and whatever alternative is developed has to be one that keeps miners employed. It would be devastating to hundreds of families to just close the mines without alternative work available.

If you didn't see the before and after pictures of Poznań, check on the right side. Pretty amazing!

  1. Its always so nice to hear the updates on your personal journeys. Thank you for making your blog so personal and full of details.

The before and after photo essay is stunning in its visceral impact both at the huge huge human suffering and devastation and also at the resilience of the human spirit.

Poznan is a beautiful city now. One that its citizens definitely feel proud of and attached to. Thank you for providing that link to the before-and-after photos.
