Brama Poznania

We started the day with sunshine but by the time we wanted to go and visit the new Brama Poznania, clouds covered the sky and it was a little chilly.  However, that didn't stop us from putting on warmer clothes and going anyway. We were able to drive right next to Ostów Tumski and park. We walked across the bridge that was made 4 or 5 years ago and then left along the riverbank to the Brama. I was surprised it was so close, only about 200 metres away. On the right side is the new building called the Heritage Center and through the center of it you gain acess to the bridge to the other side. It's free entrance this weekend but to tell you the truth, I didn't see anything inside the center that would make me want to pay to get in and use the bridge. The older bridge is open and no chargé to cross over it. Maybe in the future they will put something in the Center to make it worth paying to see but for now there isn't anything. The best part of it was the restored brick work on the inside dating back to 1838. The new, enclosed bridge is well constructed, good protection from the weather but hardly worth paying to use it.

So we walked across to the other side where the Cathedral and other building are, went inside the Cathedral and I used the new entrance to the crypt where they have exposed more old tombs and coffins to be viewed. When we were done, to get the chill off, we went to Kandulski's for coffee.

Back home we received this picture from Joan's daughter, Karen, of her son and his date for the Prom. Very interestingly, Karen told us her name is Gabriella, she is of Polish origin and speaks fluent Polish. Her parents are from northeastern Poland. Maybe now our grandson will have incentive to learn Polish.
