Speaking Russian?

Joan's Saturday Apple Pie

You might know from reading this blog that Joan and I are fans of college basketball and one team in particular, Duke University. We've had severe withdrawal from being able to watch them play during basketball season until this year when I discovered that on YouTube it was possible to view complete games they played. So, I've been putting those games on an external drive, then using our large screen TV to watch the games. It usually takes a week before the last game is played before it is posted. The strangest thing is that the last 5 games have been broadcasted by Russian commentators. Are Russians fans of American basketball? This seems strange in lieu of the trouble now between Russia and the U.S. about Ukraine. It's even stranger to watch the games and listen to the Russian language announcing what is going on during the games. Unfortunately Duke just lost last night in a tournament game, something my son was only to happy to send me a message about. He is a fan of another university team, North Carolina, which is the arch rival of Duke. The schools are both in North Carolina, only 7 miles apart. He's happy, I'm not :-)

The gossip going round this week is the new President of Poznań  wants to have all outside cafes in the rynek remove their parasols because there is too many advertisements in the rynek. That doesn't make much sense to me because if it should rain then the customers would get wet. If he wants to get rid of advertisements he should first take off those huge advertisements on the front of some buildings that completely cover the building. Those are not just commercial buildings but also tenement houses where people live and how can they look out of their windows when the are covered over by advertisements. Of course, this is only gossip and nothing has been written into law.....yet.
