Topienie Marzanny

Our friend from Przyma sent me this message.
"Today Helena and I were sitting in our dining room and the children from the village school were walking on the road in the direction of the pond. They got to the canal area and stopped. We thought maybe they were doing litter pickup but they had some kind of effigy on a stick. Helena remembered that this is the "Topienie Marzanny" day tradition. The end of winter when they drown the frost maiden. The kids said a few chants and words and they threw the effigy into the canal water. This is so neat. "The end of winter is upon us!" I don't know if this is a tradition followed in all cities, towns or villages but it is one that I was not aware of.

Joan had her eye check-up today so she can send the results back to the U.S. to renew her driver's license. Her vision is a little weaker and the ophthalmologist said she has small cataracts in both eyes but not significant at this time.  She said eventually she will have to have them removed and since there is a year and a half waiting list for the surgery, she put her name on the waiting list. This is normal waiting time for non-emergency operations. She also gave her a new prescription for glasses which we will buy when we return from Spain. She gave us two prescriptions, one for normal bifocals, the kind where you see the line in the glass and one for Progressive glasses. Those are also bifocals but you don't see the line and they are better but more expensive. The recommendation from her was to buy the first kind because they are cheaper and in a year he sight might have changed. After the cataracts are removed would be the time to buy the progressive kind.  She will go back in six months to have her eyes checked again and at that time she will also check mine. I imagine my examination will show the same result as far a my eyes getting weaker. I don't know about the cataract situation. I guess it's part of aging, you can't stop it but only enjoy it and we do. As long as my eyes can see her beautiful face, life is good. :-)

P.S. Our "Dukies" won another game so only four more to the championship.

"Dziś Helena i ja siedzieliśmy w naszej jadalni, kiedy dzieci z wiejskiej szkoły szły drogą w kierunku stawu. Dzieci powiedziały kilka sloganów i słów i wrzuciły podobiznę do wody w kanale.

Postscriptum Nasi "Dukies" wygrali kolejny mecz, tylko cztery zostały do mistrzostwa.
