Taxes :-(

OMG! I missed writing yesterday's post. I was very caught up in trying to figure out how to do the Polish tax forms and just forgot to write.  Yes, now we have to do two tax returns, one for the U.S. and one for Poland. CitiHandlowy is suppose to send us the necessary information to do this but they did not. They only sent one form(IFT-1R) and it only shows the amount of taxes paid on the interest in our account. There is another form(PIT-11) which we did not receive and that shows the taxes paid on our income. I was confused as to what to do with the IFT form but cousin Andrzej told me I didn't have to do anything with it and he was right. However, nothing was received about our pension taxes so I arranged a meeting with our lawyer/tax advisor and he said we needed the PIT statement from the bank. We called to the bank and they said both forms were mailed out as registered mail to the same address but the PIT came back as address unknown. This seemed strange to us, that one was delivered and not the other. The bank agreed to resend the PIT form this week and when we have it we will take it to the tax advisor who will make all the preparations for us to sign. This lawyer/tax advisor has been incredibly helpful in the past and we are thankful that he agreed to help us. When the main bank in Warsaw said there was nothing more they could do, he was the one who spoke to them in Polish and told them how dissatisfied he was with their service. As a result of that, 15 minutes later, they agreed to send the PIT information.  At first they said I had to go to the bank to straighten matters out but he told them it wasn't my fault but theirs and that it wasn't fair to make an old man :-) like me have to travel all the way to the bank. He was VERY effective.

Bad weather yesterday but beautiful today. More and more spring like everyday. A lot more green color is visible and I expect some flowers soon. The hyacinth bushes in front of our building already have buds on them.

We've been watching an old TV movie called "Centennial". It's a story that spans 200 years in American history from the time of the American Indians into the 1900's. For me it's interesting because I was always interested in American Indians, particularly the Sioux(Dakota) and how they lived their lives. Maybe that's why I lived for some years in a teepee in Michigan before I built my house in the woods. They knew how to live with the environment, to protect it, not like the white men who came after them.

Another concert by Łukasz Kuropaczewski, the best classical guitartist from Poland............https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOdH3WdKRsY#t=637

I finished by written homework for Zbyszek, 40 sentences, and got the corrections back. I had only 7 mistakes, 4 were because I used the wrong accent mark,1 was the wrong definitione of the word and 2 because I used the wrong word. Not bad!

OMG!

Kolejny koncert Łukasz Kuropaczewskiego, najlepszego gitarzysty gitary klasycznej  z Polski ............ https: //www.youtube.com/watch v = t = # eOdH3WdKRsY 637

  1. Two things you mentioned in this entry:

1)The Centenial Epic and your reference to Lakota Siouz

    2)your mention of Taxes/finance

Speaking of Lakota Sioux, if you then enjoyed "Dances With Wolves".
I think you would enjoy watching the documentary about its making
(just saw it last week)-- a tribute to the tenacity of Kevin Kostner0! Here is a link to this documentary:

Secondly, though not about taxes, I recall in a prior blog your mention of banking and bank draft charges and the headaches, etc.
Here is a 'Gen Dobry!' (online geneology newsletter)reader's recent entry about this very subject I'd like to pass along to you:

"*** LETTERS TO THE EDITOR ***

Subject: Sending Money to Poland, Follow-Up

A few issues back your lead article was on high fees banks were charging readers trying to pay for genealogy records in Poland. In response, here is information on an Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) financial service I used to send Euros to my dentist in Netherlands - at a fraction of the fees mentioned in the article.

Xe trade is an online EFT currency exchange business where fees are based on the daily spread between bid and ask price of currencies. The same way Cantor shops make money. For USD to Zloty here are the numbers on March 3, 2015 - 10:27 am.

    BID

    ASK

    HIGH

    LOW

    %

    USDPLN

    3.7224

    3.7254

    3.7292

    3.7071

    .018

Prices fluctuate with the market, so there is a bit of a gamble doing this. However, Xe’s exchange rate is much better than I can get from any local bank.

The process to participate is a bit of work. Worthwhile, for the right personal situation. It consists of setting up an account. Entering name, address, International Banking Numbers (IBNs), e-mail, etc. Plus sending a jpg copy of your passport and a utility bill as proof of identification. They will ask for the name, address, IBN, e-mail, etc. for payees also. The funds go directly from your bank account into the payee’s bank account. It takes about ten days for money to transfer and Xe Trade informs both parties via e-mail of where things are in the process.

I wanted to test transferring some funds to Poland before sharing this information, but never had a need; nor do I know anyone well enough in Poland to monitor progress on that side of the pond. So, if some adventurous reader wants to have a financial adventure, here is the link:
