For New Year's Eve, Poznan and many other city Ryneks were like ghost towns, not a soul to be seen. The usual Gala events of live music, dancing,, and fireworks were all canceled because of the nationwide quarantine and curfew, 7PM to 7AM. You can view the Covid Rynek on the right side of this blog. Outside our own flat, we could hear some noise but no visible fireworks along the horizon.
Thanks to friends, Marcin & Dorota, and our own neighbors, Marek & Hania, we had more food for dinner than we could eat in one night. I baked the cake from the recipe cousin Andrzej gave to me but failed miserably to produce a good cake. I'm not sure exactly what I did wrong. I put all the mixed ingredients into 1 loaf-size pan and it filled to the top. Maybe I should have used 2 pans. After 1 hour, the outside was done but it was still not done on the inside. I did the 'toothpick" test and it came out dry so I took it out of the oven. Oh well, I'll try again.
Thinking of the New Year, we watched the 3 episodes, "Sons of Liberty" to remember the formation of the United States, how it was then, and to compare it to today's United States. No comparison.

Mo偶esz zobaczy膰 Covid Rynek po prawej stronie tego bloga. Na zewn膮trz naszego mieszkania s艂ycha膰 by艂o troch臋 ha艂asu, ale nie by艂o wida膰 sztucznych ogni na horyzoncie.
Dzi臋ki przyjacio艂om Marcinowi i Dorocie oraz naszym s膮siadom, Markowi i Hani, mieli艣my wi臋cej jedzenia na obiad, ni偶 mogli艣my zje艣膰 w jeden wiecz贸r. Upiek艂am ciasto wed艂ug przepisu, kt贸re poda艂 mi kuzyn Andrzej, ale nie uda艂o mi si臋 zrobi膰 dobrego ciasta. Nie jestem pewien, co zrobi艂em 藕le. Wszystkie wymieszane sk艂adniki wk艂adam do 1 patelni wielko艣ci bochenka i nape艂niam do g贸ry. Mo偶e powinienem by艂 u偶y膰 2 patelni. Po 1 godzinie strona zewn臋trzna by艂a gotowa, ale nadal nie zosta艂a wykonana wewn膮trz. Zrobi艂em test „wyka艂aczki” i wyszed艂 suchy, wi臋c wyj膮艂em go z piekarnika. No c贸偶, spr贸buj臋 jeszcze raz.
My艣l膮c o Nowym Roku, obejrzeli艣my 3 odcinki „Sons of Liberty”, aby przypomnie膰 sobie powstanie Stan贸w Zjednoczonych, jak to by艂o wtedy, i por贸wna膰 je z dzisiejszymi Stanami Zjednoczonymi. Nie ma por贸wnania.
Para la v铆spera de A帽o Nuevo, Poznan y muchas otras ciudades, los Ryneks eran como pueblos fantasmas, ni un alma a la vista. Los eventos habituales de gala de m煤sica en vivo, baile y fuegos artificiales fueron cancelados debido a la cuarentena y el toque de queda a nivel nacional, de 7 p.m. a 7 a.m. Puede ver Covid Rynek en el lado derecho de este blog. Fuera de nuestro propio apartamento, pudimos escuchar algo de ruido pero no fuegos artificiales visibles en el horizonte.
Gracias a los amigos, Marcin y Dorota, y a nuestros propios vecinos, Marek y Hania, tuvimos m谩s comida para cenar de la que pod铆amos comer en una noche. Horne茅 el pastel con la receta que me dio el primo Andrzej, pero no pude producir un buen pastel. No estoy seguro de qu茅 hice mal. Puse todos los ingredientes mezclados en 1 molde del tama帽o de una hogaza y se llen贸 hasta arriba. Quiz谩s deber铆a haber usado 2 sartenes. Despu茅s de 1 hora, se hizo el exterior pero a煤n no se hizo el interior. Hice la prueba del "palillo de dientes" y sali贸 seco, as铆 que lo saqu茅 del horno. Bueno, lo intentar茅 de nuevo.
Pensando en el A帽o Nuevo, vimos los 3 episodios, "Sons of Liberty" para recordar la formaci贸n de los Estados Unidos, c贸mo era entonces y compararlo con los Estados Unidos de hoy. Sin comparaci贸n.
